In celebration of LGBT Pride Day, the CNMV reaffirms its support for the fight against discrimination based on identity, gender expression and sexual orientation, as well as any discrimination based on race, class, ethnic origin, disability or religion, which unfortunately continue to persist in the world.

This day, which is celebrated by institutions, entities and companies around the world, remembers the movement started on 28 June 1969 in Stonewall by the homosexual community against the repression they suffered, and marked a before and after in the struggle for diversity and inclusion.

We believe that it is everyone´s duty to safeguard the rights and freedoms of individuals in order to eradicate discrimination, attacks and acts of violence. We must implement policies that, while respecting international standards, promote real and effective equality, as well as the fight against all forms of discrimination, fostering an environment that is respectful and inclusive.

As rightly upheld by the first articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights:

"All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood."

"Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status."

The United Nations has included the reduction of inequalities as one of the Sustainable Development Goals. Through this objective, it seeks to enhance and promote the social, economic and political inclusion of all people, regardless of age, gender, disability, race, ethnicity, origin, religion, economic or other status.

To this end, it advocates the importance of raising awareness among citizens as a whole and highlighting sexual, gender and family diversity, based on the conviction that inclusive, egalitarian, supportive and tolerant societies are also stronger and more resilient. In addition, diversity helps companies and institutions to attract and retain talent and makes them more flexible and competitive.
