The 2023 United Nations Conference on Climate Change or the UNFCCC Conference of the Parties, commonly known as COP28, will be the 28th United Nations conference on climate change and will take place between 30 November and 12 December 2023 in Expo City, Dubai. The goal of the conference is to bring together world leaders, climate change experts and other key stakeholders to discuss and take preventive measures to address climate change.
One of the main challenges of this summit is to draw up the first global CO2 emissions balance sheet, align efforts and establish an action plan to correct climate change and revert the loss of biodiversity.
The CNMV is focusing its efforts on revitalizing the use of capital markets by companies, in order for the Spanish economy to successfully face its transformation towards a more sustainable economy, as well as playing a leading role in international regulation in this area.
In this regard, the CNMV has collaborated with IOSCO in the organisation of a specific event titled “How to improve the integrity of VCMs: IOSCO Good Practices”, to take place on Sunday, 3 December in Spain Pavillion.
The opening speech will be made by IOSCO’s Chairman of the Sustainable Finance Task Force (STF), Mr. Rodrigo Buenaventura (CNMV’s Chairman). Following the opening, a panel moderated by the co-Chairs of the carbon markets task force, Verena Ross (Chair of ESMA) and Rostin Behnam (Chair of the US CFTC) will take place.
The CNMV shall also participate in different events related to transition, carbon markets or the importance of sustainable finance in asset management. Below is a list of events and the links, when applicable, to watch the sessions via streaming.
